Property crime

Retirement Lists reports property crime only when an eligible U.S. destination can be matched to a direct city-agency record or an accepted consolidated city-county record in the FBI Crime Data Explorer and Uniform Crime Reporting data.

The preferred data period is finalized 2024. Seven otherwise eligible records use finalized 2023 data as a fallback. A destination passes only when both its property-crime and violent-crime series contain exactly 12 monthly rate points. Partial reporting, nonreporting, and an all-zero pair fail closed and are shown as unavailable.

The annual property-crime rate is the sum of the 12 monthly agency rate points, rounded to two decimal places. Of the evaluated destinations, 665 have an available result and 322 are unavailable.

When available, property crime may be displayed, filtered, sorted, and used in Compare. It is not used for Retirement Lists Fit or required-preference matching.

Score explanation

Lower property-crime rates receive higher property-crime metric scores. For annual rate x:

Score = round(70 + ((1600 − max(x, 0)) ÷ 1600 × 30)) when x ≤ 1600

Score = round(45 + ((3600 − x) ÷ (3600 − 1600) × 24)) when 1600 < x ≤ 3600

Score = round(((7000 − clamp(x, 3600, 7000)) ÷ (7000 − 3600) × 44)) when x > 3600
