Caye Caulker Marine Reserve covers about 3,913 hectares of reef, seagrass, mangrove, lagoon, and sand-flat habitat. Snorkeling, diving, fishing, wildlife viewing, and boat trips can be part of ordinary leisure rather than a distant holiday.

Movement on the island is mostly by foot, bicycle, golf cart, water taxi, and small aircraft. The short distances can feel convenient, but narrow sandy streets, heat, mobility needs, weather, and boat schedules still determine how a day works.

The 2022 assessment reports that about 60% of the permanent population owned property and 34% rented, but it does not provide a reliable current median home value or rent. Imported food, fuel, construction supplies, repairs, and household goods may cost more because of the island's isolation.

Caye Caulker is a low-lying limestone cay, with most elevations reported around 0.5 to 2.5 meters above mean sea level. The assessment identifies hurricanes, storm surge, tidal flooding, heavy rain, erosion, and sea-level rise as major hazards, with substantial flooding possible during storm surge events.

The same assessment describes individual septic and soakaway systems in a porous, high-water-table setting. Ask about elevation, drainage, septic condition, wastewater connections, backup power, safe shelter, road access, and insurance. The available crime sources do not establish a comparable current island-specific rate.

The Caye Caulker Marine Reserve plan describes average temperatures near 28°C, annual rainfall near 1,500 millimeters, heavier rain in November and December and again in June and July, and a hurricane season generally from June through November.
